Can I run a photo screensaver on an LG smart TV?

The browser inside an LG TV is usually several years behind the browser on your laptop. webOS sets from the mid 2010s ship a browser engine that cannot run modern web apps, and NetCast TVs from before that are older still. Most photo screensaver sites simply fail on these TVs: the page loads, the layout breaks, and nothing plays.

FrameSaver detects the LG browser and serves it a plain player instead of the full app: one small script, no heavy framework, no modern CSS. It plays the same account, the same photos, and the same settings you chose on your phone. The only difference you will notice is that the TV shows a pairing code instead of a QR code.

The test is simple: open the Web Browser app and go to framesaver.app. If you see a pairing code, the TV is supported. There is nothing to install from the LG Content Store.

On the TV, press the Home button on the remote and open Web Browser. Type framesaver.app in the address bar. The page shows the FrameSaver name and a pairing code made of letters and numbers. Leave the TV on this screen.

On your phone, open framesaver.app/activate. Type the pairing code from the TV, then enter your email address. FrameSaver emails you a 6-digit code. Type that code on your phone. Within a few seconds the TV notices that the phone finished signing in and starts playing.

Everything else happens on your phone or computer at framesaver.app. Pick a curated category such as national parks or space photography, or one of your own photo folders, and choose the layout and how long each photo stays on screen. The TV player picks up new settings when it reloads, which it does on its own every 20 minutes, or right away if you reload the browser on the TV.

Sign in on your phone or computer, create a folder in My Photos, and upload as many photos as you like. FrameSaver resizes each upload to a 1920 pixel long edge and bakes the correct rotation into the image itself. This matters on LG TVs: older TV browsers ignore the rotation tag that phones store in a photo, so a photo taken in portrait can appear sideways when shown by other methods. Uploading through FrameSaver avoids that.

Your folder photos can play as single framed prints on a background color sampled from the photo, or as a collage of several prints on a white background. Choose filename order or shuffle, and 5, 10, or 15 seconds per photo. These settings apply on the LG player exactly as they do in a desktop browser.

LG TVs have their own timers that turn the screen off after a period without remote input. FrameSaver plays a silent, invisible video in the background so the TV treats the page as active playback, and on the models we tested that keeps the screen on. If your TV still goes dark, look for Auto Power Off or Auto Off in the Settings menu, usually under General, Power, or Energy Saving depending on the webOS version, and set it to Off. The exact menu path varies by model year.

On webOS TVs with a Magic Remote, the on-screen pointer hides itself after a few seconds of no movement, so it will not sit on top of your photos.

On a Samsung Frame TV or any recent Samsung set, FrameSaver runs the full web app and signs you in by QR code. On an LG TV it runs the lightweight player and signs you in by pairing code. Both use the same account, the same photo library, and the same settings, so a household with both brands can use one FrameSaver login for all of them.

LG does not have an equivalent of Samsung Art Mode. Some LG models offer a Gallery mode with built-in artwork, but it does not display your own web photos. A browser screensaver is the practical way to show your photos or a curated collection on an LG TV without a streaming box.
