How do I show my own photos in Google TV Ambient Mode, and what are the alternatives?
Ambient Mode is the screensaver built into Google TV, on the Chromecast with Google TV and on sets from Sony, TCL, Hisense, and others that run the Google TV interface. Setting up Ambient Mode with your photos
The steps are the same on a Chromecast with Google TV and on a television that runs Google TV, though menu labels shift slightly between versions.
- Open Settings from the profile icon or the gear, then System, then Ambient mode. On some sets it is under Screensaver.
- Choose Google Photos. Sign in if prompted and pick one or more albums. Live albums that add new photos of chosen people or pets update automatically.
- Optionally turn on the weather, time, and personal photo captions.
- Set when the screensaver starts, usually after five to thirty minutes of no input. Leave the TV on the home screen or a paused app and it begins on its own.
What Ambient Mode cannot do
It is a screensaver in the strict sense: it waits for the TV to go idle and stops the moment anything is pressed.
